What's New?

Sunday, July 5 - On this weekend that we celebrate Independence Day, we reflect on God's blessings to our nation and accept the challenge to make it even better. Read Psalm 33:1-12 in preparation for Dr. Leininger's message entitled "God Bless America."

Book Blog - This summer, we have an online book club reading Tribal Church:  Ministering to the Missing Generation by Carol Howard-Merritt.  Please call Dorothy if you would like to participate so we can be sure to order you a copy.  You may go to our book blog to learn more about the book and see where the discussion is taking place.   You can click on the "how to" tab to learn how to participate.

water “Wade in the Water” is a presbytery-wide celebration to be held on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 3:00-7:30 pm at the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island! The gathering will bring members from all of our churches together for an afternoon of activities, fellowship, food, and fun culminating in an inspiring worship service led by the Hands of Christ Committee. Click here for more information.

New Nursery Pagers - We are still in the process of fully implementing our Safe Place Policy, adopted by session in August 2008 in order to protect our children and youth from abuse and to protect our staff and volunteers from false allegations of abuse. The policy also sets up nursery guidelines to help parents feel safer about leaving their children in someone else’s care – especially visitors. We can assure parents that we have trained and screened our staff and volunteers to provide the best care. We have also begun using a nursery paging system. Parents are given a numbered pager so that the nursery workers can get in touch with them if necessary. We also use the pagers to ensure that the children only leave with the person who dropped them off since parents have to return the correctly numbered pager when they come to pick up their child. This is an important step for our ministry with God’s youngest children in the year 2009. Please speak with Dorothy if you have any questions about the Safe Place Policy or the paging system.

DPC Mug Visitors get MUGGED at DPC - That's right. As part of a new emphasis on responding to our local visitors, the DPC Outreach Committee is "mugging" them on the afternoon of their first visit to worship at Dorchester Presbyterian. Along with a few other welcoming goodies and some brochures that answer questions about the ministry and mission of the DPC congregation, a DPC Travel Mug is our gift to our guests. Needless to say, we hope they make good use of it and especially as they make their way back to us for future worship opportunities. What's that you say? You would like one too? Check with the church office.

Sunday Brunch Sunday Brunch is becoming a monthly tradition at Dorchester Presbyterian. We gather following worship on the first Sunday of the month enjoy wonderful food and fellowship. The cost is just $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children - best deal in town!

A New Committee Structure was unveiled at the recent annual congregational/corporation meeting. It is an outgrowth of work the congregation did in identifying areas of ministry that need attention while attempting to streamline and clarify responsibilities for those offering to serve. Click here for a look at the details to see where God is leading you to serve.

Fair Trade Coffee - We are now serving and selling Fair Trade Coffee through the Presbyterian Coffee Project.  Through this program, we can help provide a fair wage and a life of dignity for coffee farmers around the world.  12oz bags of coffee in a variety of flavors are available in the church office for $7 each.

Good Search - Do you google or yahoo?  Now there is a way you can search the internet and help raise money for the DPC youth group.  Go here, and we will get a portion of the advertising revenue if you click on Dorchester Presbyterian Church as your charity of choice.
